Government Procurements; NHS Supplier and Licence Contracts; Purpose-Driven Brands; even some Local Councils are now requiring businesses to provide a detailed Carbon Reduction Plan to continue operating - which is a good thing, helping us all move towards to UK's Net Zero target of 2050.
But the question still remains - when will you be asked for yours?
Let's answer an easier question first - what even is a Carbon Reduction Plan?
A Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) is simply a short document outlining how an organisation is taking strategic action to reduce their Greenhouse Gas Emissions within a forecast timeframe, eg. to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030.
It fundamentally includes two main elements:
- A breakdown of your Greenhouse Gas emissions (aka. Carbon Footprint) - including current and "Baseline emissions" (ie. when you started keeping track)
- A commitment to reduce emissions by a certain amount over a specified time, a plan for how you're going to make that happen, and acknowledgement of to what degree you're on-track to achieve that target.
While, in a nutshell, that's all nice and simple, in reality it can be a fair bit of work to 1) get a detailed handle on your carbon footprint in the first place, and 2) set realistic reduction targets and work to achieve them. The good news is, We Can Help You With That!
