We're a small, remote-working team here at Practice Building. We don't make anything, and the main thing that we sell is time and expertise. It would be really easy to assume our environmental impact is small and just shrug it off... but we're not going to do that.
We fully accept the magnitude and urgency of the climate crisis, and believe we all have the responsibility to clean up our act, neutralise our carbon footprint in line with the Paris Agreement, and leave the planet in a better state for current and future generations.
So we've done the work to calculate our carbon footprint, and offset it (and quite a bit more) with the Gold Standard - an internationally accredited carbon offsetting programme. Realistically we don't have much scope to reduce our already minimal emissions, but we're committing to reducing travel as much as possible and to use rail travel as much as possible when travel is necessary. Thereby we're not just offsetting our little carbon footprint, we're taking measures to reduce it too.
On which note - we're proud to say we're a Net Zero business!
We also don't accumulate much waste, but our Responsible Recycling Policy means that whatever waste we do create, we dispose of in the most environmentally-sound ways. We're not quite able to say we're a "paper-free" office, but we're close!

Not one of us can save the world alone - indeed, the world needs radical action from all parties NOW in order to avoid the worst effects of the climate crisis.
To help the Optical industry get in the game, we've developed the Net Zero Optics programme and helped set up the Net Zero Eyecare not-for-profit organisation to, respectively, deliver sustainability strategy, certification of achievements, and offsetting to the sector.
Via the Net Zero programme, we're changing the state of Optics from one that has a big carbon footprint and heavy reliance on plastic to one that is truly sustainable.
