Take Your Optical Business to Net Zero

Net Zero Eyecare have just released a suite of new certification standards covering the carbon footprint of optical businesses. These standards pave an ideal path for any optical business - from practices to manufacturers - to follow and achieve Net Zero certification efficiently.
These new standards - available here - are quite groundbreaking in how clearly they set out the steps between Zero and Net Zero! They also make our work through the Net Zero Optics programme even more effective, more accessible and more rewarding for programme participants!
So how does it work?
Well, carbon accounting can be a fairly complicated process, and it's easy to lose your way or lose interest.
These standards build upon that process, to offer your rewards (in the form of certifications) as you go.
Of course, you're welcome to approach the certifications in any order you like. But let's say you're starting from scratch...
As a Practice, you might:
- Make a Net Zero Commitment,
- Check your electricity supplier - if they're 100% Renewable you can grab a Powered By Renewables certification,
- Offset the carbon footprint of all the eyewear you sell,
- Dip into carbon accounting to make your audiology services completely carbon neutral,
- Complete carbon accounting for the whole business, offset that footprint, and achieve Net Zero Carbon certification for Practices.
As a Supplier, you might:
- Make a Net Zero Commitment,
- Check the electricity supplier of all of your sites and warehouses - if they're 100% Renewable you can grab a Powered By Renewables certification,
- Dive into carbon accounting to calculate and offset the carbon footprint of any events you organise,
- Focus on calculating and offsetting the carbon footprint of your operations within a national boundary (putting a pin in the international supply chain for a moment),
- Dive fully into complete carbon accounting, factoring in the global supply chain, and achieve Net Zero Carbon certification for Suppliers.
All pretty straightforward, right?
